      No... 150,000 is actually the maximum score achievable. It's well-documented.

    I'm glad I found this. It seems Street Fighter 6 chose to a variable delay frame option. Which is terrible when occasional ping spikes happen. I prefer games letting me choose my delay frames or having baked in Delay frames like GG Strive does.

    To me, the most amazing thing about this game is how David Crane, the programmer, was able to fit 255 screens into only 4k of cartridge space. The way he did it is ingenious: ua-cam.com/video/MBT1OK6VAIU/v-deo.html Unbelievably, none of the screens were designed by a human! He also talks about how he originally wanted to only give the player one Harry but was talked out of it by his fellow programmers. Problem was, he had already finished the game and used up virtually every single byte of storage so it then took him weeks and weeks to refine his code so that he could add the extra features. The man is a legend!

      That's what happens in Pitfall when you reach "game over" in Pitall for any reason. Note the "Activision" logo animates also at game over, so it's not the video. :)

      @@daveidmarx8296 Well, we didn't design the game, but we can speculate: maybe once you get a perfect score, the challenge then becomes to collect all the treasures in the least amount of time, so you'd want the clock to stop to see how much time it took.

    Game 2 is the only situation where the black key is in the white castle. He set it up so it never starts there in game 3 in order to have the chalice be in either the white or black castles. Also in game 3 the gold key could start in the gold castle. That shouldn't have happened, but it's OK with me if it's mutually locked, like in the black castle, with the black key locked in the gold castle. Kids should learn when it's impossible. I wised there were more levels after I beat level 3. They could have made one where the chalice starts in the secret message room. I read there could have been 2 or 3 more characters, like another bat or dragon or something else. The instructions said the evil wizard stole the chalice, but we never see him. That could have been a level where you have to defeat him. There's an opening inside the white castle that doesn't lead to any rooms, so that could have been a hint for a later level.

    Some considerations: Do fighting games tend to have variable latency (variable rollback) all the time, when not counting big lag spikes? Because to me that kind of awful. Why not fix variable latency by buffering, to give it some extra time for the packets to arrive, so that they can be simulated on time? For example, if at average 130 ping the latency varies between 120 and 140, use 15ms extra buffer. This would result in an artificially inflated but stable 145 ping. The latency would be higher, but it might be worth it for the consistency. It's similar to the scenario when you use pure and fixed input delay that's higher than the ping, which makes your perspective just more artificially delayed even if the ping is lower. There's no reason some of that can't be allotted to (relatively) fixed amount of rollback.

      The point of rollback is that latency spikes do not increase lag; your input delay is decoupled from latency. Latency spikes would only increase the teleport of your opponent, and there's generally been no interest in artificially inflating teleports. If a spike happens, the teleport will be larger while that spike happens, but if the data for the next move arrives sooner than anticipated, there's no point in not presenting the correction immediately, thereby reducing the teleport.

      Just as Activision had a score to beat to send away for a patch, Atari had two logbooks that gave you three levels of scores to beat. I haven't beat the best of some of them, like invisible Space Invaders. Is this what you mean; did Atari Vault have scores to beat?

    I think the delay based netcode is the best. Ggpo doesn't make things magically better. It call comes down to the connection. First and foremost, ban wifi. What we really need is deterministic based networking. Just imagine two PCs connected via rs485 or something. It would be magical but that won't happen.

      No, laggy inputs that make you lab combos unviable is not better than frame skip magic. And unless every console or fighting game is going to include Ethernet devices that can connect to your Router regardless of where it is relative to you device, don't ban wifi. Not everyone has the money or room setup or willingness to buy extra cables that wouldn't be necessary if ISPs weren't shit.

    I haven't seen or played this game in 40 years, but all the little timings and things you have to do on each screen immediately flooded back as I watched, at least on the earlier screens. When he got to those gold bars and the empty ground, I immediately remembered you have to wait because the hole will open up, and it did exactly that. I often can't remember all my coworkers' names, but I remember crap like that. Go figure.

    Hey code mystics I was wondering why on the xbox version, why doesn't the announcer say fight on? Just says fight then cuts to match. Talking about ki 1

      On the Xbox version, we did not simulate the slow load times of the original arcade machine's hard drive. It loads faster, and so sometimes transitions to the next screen before the message is finished (or sometimes, before it starts). You will sometimes hear, "Fight... Ready" as the "On" was cut off prematurely by the faster load.

    Hey Code Mystics I preordered from Walmart. It says shipping Jan 24, 2022. I have KI on Xbox but this free has online play and a replica cabinet. The new ones are more expensive though than last year. The supply and demand problem, and inflation.

    Any possibility we could get a list of scanline options to choose from, rather than just “On” and “Off?” One of the great things about KI being emulated in the past was the variety of scanline types via different platforms so that a user could find just the right look to smooth out all the rendered graphics.

    Yes!! So glad this has been fixed. Are you also tweaking the first KI intro too? It's a tad bit too fast as well especially when the Killer Instinct logo is spoken the music kicks in too quick. Been trying to push John D on Facebook to add a new voice over during when the code mystics logo appears which really should zoom out slowly from close up like the ultra 64 logo. Hopefully a voice over of "Available for your home in 2022 only from code mystics and Arcade1up." Hope it can happen. Fantastic job guys!

      Actually, neither KI1 nor KI2's intros were broken, per se. John D.'s video comes from an internal beta he had installed and unfortunately wasn't told some things were not quite stable in it. Our video here is from the production version, and is how it's been since July 17, minus an unfortunately 11 day window which coincides with when John installed it on his hardware. That version never went to production, though. The same problem affected both KI1 and KI2, but both have been correct aside from those 11 days.

    Yeah but is it gonna have the same crappy "scanlines" as the terrible ones on the legacy cabs? If so..hard pass I have the midway legacy cab and the "scanlines" are set completely wrong and makes the game still look terrible and Pixelated.
